The eMerge Foundation Teachers for Timor/Barefoot Nursing Fund Raising Rugby World Cup lunch was held on 2 September 2011.
450 rugby lovers gathered in the ballroom of the Shangri-la Hotel.
The Ravenswood School orchestra entertained the crowd showing their excellent musicianship.
Her Excellency Professor Maria Bashir, Governor of NSW and Sir Nicholas Shehadie, General Peter Cosgrove as Chancellor of ACU attended. Her Excellency spoke encouragingly of the work of the eMerge Foundation and urged everyone to support the projects in East Timor.
Other honoured guests included Estela Ferreira, Goodwill Ambassador for Timor Leste, Maria de Jesus Consul General for Timor Leste and Denis Fernandez Chairman of the Australian Timor Leste Business Council.
The financial service industry supported the lunch with Perpetual and Colonial First State as gold supporters.
Former Wallabies Rod Kafer, Greg Martin and Tom Lawton and Foxsports Mr. Rugby Greg Clark discussed each pool and the countries that they thought would win the William Webb Ellis cup. Most hoped it would be the Wallabies.
Tom Lawton as MC was in scintillating form.
The Talent Development Program graduates Nathan Allgood, Kristen Adam, Bianca Oechsle and Nathan Lamont touched our soul with their beautiful singing.
The audience was moved when the Consul General Maria de Jesus spoke. She urged the audience to support the Teachers for Timor project and bare foot nursing program as Maria believes that education is the most significant way for Australians to contribute to Timor’s future.
